Inner Atlas, an Australian medicinal mushroom brand, was born in 2019 from a desire to offer the most pure and potent medicinal mushrooms possible, and to be able to show you why. This page is where we lay it out: where each of our mushies grows, how we extract them, and what the lab tells us about every batch.
It's the standard we've held ourselves to from the very beginning. If you have a question we haven't answered here, drop us a note at hello@inneratlas.com.au.
At a glance
- 100% fruiting body. No added grain, starch, mycelium, fillers or sugar.
- Grown on whole logs, not wood chip in a bag, in semi-wild conditions in each mushroom's traditional growing region. Chaga is wild-harvested; Cordyceps militaris is cultivated indoors.
- Dual extracted with water and organic alcohol, at ratios from 8:1 to 20:1.
- Every batch tested twice: first by our supplier, then independently by a laboratory in Australia.
- Over 30% beta-D-glucans, guaranteed, measured with the Megazyme method. Current batches range from 32.47% to 38.73%.
- Certified organic (USDA and EU). Packed in Sydney. Australian owned.
Grown on logs, not in bags
Our Reishi, Lion's Mane, Turkey Tail and Tremella grow on whole logs, known as duanwood. The logs sit outdoors in semi-wild conditions, exposed to the sun, wind and rain of the region the mushroom has traditionally come from.
Many mushrooms sold as "wood-grown" are grown on sawdust or wood chip packed into plastic bags indoors. A whole log takes longer and costs more, and it's how these mushrooms grow in the wild.
Two of our mushrooms are different:
- Chaga isn't cultivated. It's sustainably wild-harvested from living birch trees in Siberia.
- Cordyceps militaris is cultivated indoors. We use only its fruiting body, harvested and then extracted, so no growing material goes into the powder.
Why we're passionate about wood-grown mushrooms
In the wild, medicinal mushrooms are mostly found growing on wood or living trees, rather than springing from the ground. What they grow on shapes their quality and the compounds they ultimately contain, which is why we choose whole logs.
Where each mushroom comes from
We source each mushroom from its Di Tao region: the place it has traditionally been grown or gathered, where the climate and wood suit it best. We vetted each grower ourselves and tested their samples in Australia before working with them.
| Mushroom | Latin name | Where it grows | How it's grown | Extract ratio |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reishi | Ganoderma lucidum | Jinzhai County, Anhui, China | Whole logs, semi-wild | 20:1 |
| Chaga | Inonotus obliquus | Siberia, Russia | Wild-harvested from birch | 20:1 |
| Lion's Mane | Hericium erinaceus | Gutian County, Fujian, China | Whole logs, semi-wild | 10:1 |
| Turkey Tail | Trametes versicolor | Greater Khingan Range, Heilongjiang, China | Whole logs, semi-wild | 10:1 |
| Cordyceps | Cordyceps militaris | Gutian County, Fujian, China | Cultivated indoors | 10:1 |
| Tremella | Tremella fuciformis | Gutian County, Fujian, China | Whole logs, semi-wild | 8:1 |
Our Reishi grows in Jinzhai County, in Anhui's Dabie Mountains, a region our growers are proud to call a traditional home of reishi.
100% fruiting body
The fruiting body is the mushroom itself: the cap and stem you'd recognise in the wild. It's the only part we use.
Some mushroom powders are made from mycelium, the root-like network, grown on rice or grain. Mycelium is impossible to separate from the substrate it's grown on, so the grain or rice is then ground into the powder with it, adding starch. Our extracts contain no grain, starch, mycelium, fillers or sugar.
Dual extraction
A mushroom's cell walls are made of chitin, which the body can't easily break down. Extraction draws the compounds out of those walls.
We extract every mushroom twice: once in water and once in organic alcohol. Water draws out the beta-D-glucans. Alcohol draws out compounds that water leaves behind, such as the triterpenes in Reishi and the hericenones in Lion's Mane.
What extract ratios mean
An extract ratio tells you how much dried mushroom went into the finished powder. A 10:1 extract uses about 10 kg of dried mushroom for every 1 kg of extract; a 20:1 extract uses about 20 kg.
A higher ratio means a more concentrated powder, but a ratio alone doesn't prove quality. That's why we also measure the beta-D-glucans in every batch.
Tested twice, every batch
Every batch is tested by our supplier, then tested again by an independent laboratory in Australia before it reaches you. We've tested this way since our first batch in 2019. The laboratory checks each batch for:
- beta-D-glucans (beta 1,3/1,6-D-glucan)
- heavy metals
- pesticides
- microbes
- toxins
We measure beta-D-glucans with the Megazyme K-YBGL method. It counts the beta-glucans specifically, not total polysaccharides, which can include starch. We guarantee more than 30% in every extract.
Our current batches
| Mushroom | Beta-D-glucans | Tested |
|---|---|---|
| Turkey Tail | 38.73% | July 2026 |
| Chaga | 38.64% | June 2026 |
| Reishi | 38.53% | June 2026 |
| Lion's Mane | 37.69% | June 2026 |
| Cordyceps | 34.32% | June 2026 |
| Tremella | 32.47% | June 2026 |
We update this table when a new batch is tested.
Certified organic
Every mushroom in our range is certified organic to USDA and EU Organic standards.
In our Dawn, Day and Dusk Adaptogenic Blends, the other ingredients are Australian Certified Organic. Our Australian native ingredients, Kakadu plum and Davidson plum, are wild-harvested.
Packed in Sydney, Australian owned
Inner Atlas is an Australian-owned company, founded in 2019. We blend and pack every extract and blend in Sydney.
Our range: six single-mushroom extracts (Reishi, Chaga, Lion's Mane, Turkey Tail, Cordyceps and Tremella) in 50g and 150g, and three blends (Dawn, Day and Dusk) in 120g.
Questions we're often asked
Are Inner Atlas extracts made from the fruiting body or mycelium?
The fruiting body only. There's no mycelium, grain, starch or filler in any of our extracts.
Is there grain in your extracts?
No. Reishi, Lion's Mane, Turkey Tail and Tremella grow on whole logs, and Chaga is wild-harvested from birch trees. Cordyceps militaris is cultivated indoors, and only its fruiting body is harvested and extracted, so no growing material goes into the powder.
How do you test your extracts?
Every batch is tested by our supplier, then independently, for beta-D-glucans, heavy metals, pesticides, microbes and toxins.
How much beta-D-glucan is in your extracts?
We guarantee more than 30%, measured with the Megazyme method. Our current batches test between 32.47% and 38.73%.
What does 20:1 mean?
About 20 kg of dried mushroom goes into every 1 kg of extract. Our Reishi and Chaga are 20:1, Lion's Mane, Turkey Tail and Cordyceps are 10:1, and Tremella is 8:1.
Are Inner Atlas extracts organic?
Yes. Every mushroom is certified organic to USDA and EU Organic standards.
Where is Inner Atlas made?
We're Australian owned, and we blend and pack everything in Sydney. Our mushrooms come from their traditional growing regions in China and, for Chaga, Siberia.
How should I store my extracts, and how long do they last?
Keep the bag sealed and store it in a cool, dry place. Our single-mushroom extracts have a shelf life of 1 to 2 years, and our blends 1 year. Each bag holds a small moisture-absorbing sachet; please don't eat it.
